As part of this year’s Great Yarmouth Arts Festival, we present a day of street celebrations across the cultural quarter… Festa Fiesta!
Launched by the festival Carnival, which this year celebrates Circus250 with some very special ‘elephantine’ creations, we take to the streets and venues with performance, circus, music and mayhem!
The Circus Comes to Town!
Great Yarmouth celebrates Circus 250 with a special community carnival parade. The streets will be brought to life with amazing life-size elephant creations, celebrating Barnum & Bailey’s Circus and magnificent giant banner flags created by the community and the internationally renowned Kinetika. The parade will move along the seafront, into town and then up to St. George’s Theatre. Here the parade will divide, one part heading to the Library, to launch the Community Fair, the second to SeaChange’s Drill House to continue the Festa Fiesta celebrations.
There’ll be plenty to join in with and keep you busy…
Try out workshops in samba, animation, crafting and print.
Grab a sit-down and entertain the kids at the Drill House. Sweets and treats for everyone when you take a crack and wallop at our giant Pinata Bash or kick back on the Street Beach. Get ‘hands-on’ and try out workshops in circus, samba, animation, crafting and print. Get in the carnival spirit along King Street and St George’s Theatre with face painting and the gorgeous glitter station, create a carnival headdress or join in the urban arts workshop with Reprezent to create your own Rainbow T-Shirts (bring your own T-Shirt).
Celebrate 150 years of the Drill House with an atmospheric sound installation and ‘Circus Yourself’ Selfie Booth and then enjoy some late-night projections by Reprezent.
A celebrated collection of clowns, cookathons and colourful acrobatics
The Black Eagles provide a breathtaking display of stunning acrobatics, energetic dance and uplifting African beats. Hocus Pocus Theatre’s Lucy Enskat is a clown on the run. Dot Comedy’s Half-Naked Chef provides a comedy cookathon and Maynard Flip Flap will have you racing biscuits. Bongo Bolero’s Dick Danger will show you just how stupid one man can be!
Tooting Commotions in the cultural quarter
Chaotic clowning and Crazy brass cacophony from Ramshacklicious as they prepare for the end of the world. ‘Surf Noir’ from the Bikini Beach Band, and brazen the day with Afro-Caribbean sounds from Son-Pickkante and the sensational Norwich Samba.
The Library’s annual Community Fair brings everyone together in celebration with stalls, music, dancing and cake-making competition.
Plus a delicious all-day BBQ to whet the appetite.
