Roll Up Roll Up!: Celebrating Circus in Great Yarmouth and 250 years of Circus
Seachange Arts have received a grant of £48,800 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for Roll up! Roll up! A celebration of Circus in Great Yarmouth. Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players.
Coinciding with Circus250 – a national celebration around 250th anniversary of UK Circus, SeaChange will deliver an exciting heritage learning and community arts project for 2018 to 2019.
The project will raise awareness of the wider history of circus but with a special focus on the long tradition of seaside entertainment and circus heritage within the town.
The programme will involve local people in an exploration and celebration of the history of Circus in Great Yarmouth through a series of themed events, participatory performances, heritage skills training, oral history collection and other creative educational workshops and activities.
Professional artists will work with communities and draw on the heritage for inspiration. Creative responses will inform the creation of imaginative educational interpretation materials and performance presentations as part of The Out There International Festival of Circus and Street Arts, Festa Fiesta and other events in the SeaChange calendar.
Do you have any photos or circus memories to share? Would you like to volunteer or get involved in the project in another way? If so, please email us: firstname.lastname@example.org
